The great white hunter of the north walks on a floor that is disappearing beneath it. Polar bears catch seals from sea ice, so every week the ice comes later or leaves earlier is a week they struggle to eat. They are not doomed: the world saved them once already, when nations agreed to stop the hunting. What they need from us now is not mercy but cooler air. Every light switched off, every journey walked, every plate that skips the beef is ice kept under their feet.
Polar bears hunt on the floating ice at the top of the world. When the ice melts too early it is hard for them to find food. Here is the good news: people saved polar bears once before by agreeing to stop hunting them, and we can help again by using less energy so the ice stays frozen.
